A transformed sixteenth-century masseria near Porto Selvaggio in Salento
A sixteenth-century masseria on the edge of the Porto Selvaggio nature reserve, fifteen hundred metres from the sea and set within three hectares of olive groves, pine forest and private gardens. The estate has been quietly transformed: a seven-metre glazed atrium now links its two historic stone wings, and its cross-vaulted rooms open onto the landscape through walls of glass.
Inside, bare stone and honey-coloured vaults meet a collection of mid-century design classics, pieces by Eames, Saarinen, Panton and Castiglioni set against polished floors and warm light. Eight bedrooms sleep up to sixteen, each with its own bathroom, while living rooms, a fireplace lounge and a long dining hall flow between the two wings.
Outside, a black lap pool stretches beside a dry-stone wall, with shaded pergolas, outdoor dining and lounges scattered through the grounds. A private gym, a home cinema and two full-time butlers complete the estate. Baroque Nardò, unhurried and still largely undiscovered, is ten minutes away by car.
