Lazio is Rome and the green country that begins where the city ends.
On the wooded slopes above the centro storico, long private drives run between umbrella pines; north of the city, the lake at Bracciano and the historic villages of Campagnano di Roma and Formello sit close enough for a day out and far enough to come back to quiet.
Our houses stand in that second Lazio. One is a country estate hidden in the greenery of the Roman countryside, with its pool and pool house private to the guests; the other a family villa on Monte Mario, screened entirely by its own trees and minutes by car from the Vatican. Both keep a caretaker discreetly on hand, and both leave Rome close enough for a day of sightseeing before returning to the countryside.
The Vatican and the centro storico, minutes by car from the pines of Monte Mario.
The lake north of the city, within easy reach of the houses in the countryside.
One of the historic villages north of Rome, with Formello, an easy day trip.
